Viennese Study: More Close Friendships Drive Political Polarization Forward

In recent decades, both societal polarization and the number of close social contacts have measurably increased, particularly from 2008 to 2010. Based on these observations and with a model, Viennese complexity researchers found a connection between these phenomena. According to their study, higher connectivity leads to stronger polarization, as they report in the journal Proceedings of the US National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).
