The attack on November 2, 2020, revealed weaknesses in state protection and counter-terrorism. An investigation commission under Interior Minister Nehammer found operational misconduct by individual authorities before the attack. Since then, the establishment of the Directorate for State Protection and Intelligence Service (DSN) has brought improvements, according to Vienna criminal law expert Ingeborg Zerbes.
