Housing Construction Stagnates at a Low Level

Living space is scarce, and this is not expected to change anytime soon. After a long boom, new construction plummeted massively from 2021, explained Wolfgang Amann, the managing director of the Institute for Real Estate, Construction, and Housing (IIBW), in a statement on Tuesday. The approximately 51,500 housing units approved in 2024 are barely more than half of the peak in 2017 and 34 percent less than the average of the last ten years. However, there was a positive trend in subsidies.
